This is Salome, she is 6 years old and came to the orphanage at 4 years old. She lost both her parents to HIV/AIDS.
Salome was placed under a caretaker of her auntie and was mistreated by being forced into child labor and tortured. But she escaped to the streets of Mbale. The Police found her and brought her to the safety of the orphanage.
Salome says she has a home now, with many wonderful friends, she feels and knows the love of Jesus at the orphanage. She says it is like having a father and mother again.
Salome loves reciting Bible verses with her friends. She says when she grows up she would love to be a preacher.
Hannah is now 6 years old, and she was picked up from wandering around the streets of Mbale as a 2-year-old. Like so many others, her parents must have left her on the streets because they were destitute and living in poverty.
No one has come forward and we don’t know Hannah’s parents whereabouts. Hanna was very afraid at first but slowly began to feel and know the love of Jesus all around her. She has made many new friends in the orphanage. She fells welcome and at home with God as her Father.
Hannah’s best friend, the little girl with the big smile in the picture, is called Jane. Jane is a wonderful encouragement to Hanna. Hannah loves to play netball and she says she would like to be an athlete one day.
